How your website design team can affect your SEO

Being the COO of an Orange county website design team has given me some pretty unique perspective on how your website design team can affect your SEO efforts.

There are two basic components of SEO that I am going to talk about today, on-page factors and off-page factors

On-Page Optimization – Make sure your site is built on SEO bedrock, not quicksand, or you won’t be found by the search engines. Your site will require Google compliance for indexability and spider navigation for all your on-page factors. Each page should be engineered to ensure thorough readability by search engines. Each page should be structured taking into consideration relevant keywords for:

•    URL
•    Title
•    Description
•    H1, H2 and H3 tags
•    Metanames
•    alt tags for images
•    Appropriate density

This approach along with an XML site map and appropriate cross linking will increase the relevancy of the site to the search engines, thereby driving more traffic to your site.  Your website design team will need to follow this type of best practices methodology in order to ensure that your SEO efforts after the site is published will have their maximum effect.

Ongoing SEO services – Hit the moving target and catapult your site up the search engine rankings, driving even more traffic to your site by optimizing your off page factors. Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is an often misunderstood concept today. For a site to be fully optimized we must not only address the on-page factors as mentioned above, but must pay special attention to the “Off-page factors”, this is where a company like Will2Design an Orange County Website Design firm, can really come in handy. Off-page factors are things like a link from a relevant site using one of your keywords, or an article posted on a directory listed your site using that same keyword. Activities such as back linking, blog posting, directory listing, article writing, and spinning increase the relevancy of these off-page factors, which in the eyes of the search engines, is over 70% of the weight. In order to have an inclusive SEO approach you first start with site structure, or on-page factors, then you build on top of that structure. SEO as a process is a lot like building a house. You must put your home on a solid foundation in order for the house to be stable, then you must have good materials and take the time to build the house right, otherwise you don’t get what you paid for.  Make sure the website design firm you end up going with has ongoing SEO packages that start out at around a 3 month effort to a very aggressive 12 month approach and all aspects of SEO are included in each package, the only thing you have to decide is how aggressive do you want to be? Those packages should include research into relevant short and long tailed keywords, relevant backlinking, adjustments to site content as needed, blog posts (every post is spun on multiple blogs), directory listings and article posts (again, spun on multiple sites). This makes the search engines “see” your site in multiple places and assign it a higher relevancy in the rankings. This effort has been likened to hitting a moving target; because a keyword that is driving traffic today may not be driving it tomorrow. Keeping your site relevant takes effort, but we have the right tools and the right specialists for the job. Remember, while not always true, generally speaking the higher the rank, the more traffic.

So remember when choosing your website design firm pick one that has a good background in SEO services and has some real success stories to share. I know that for this Orange county website design firm, we’re focused on our clients succeeding.
